TITLE Medium Dimensions
Crucifixion Revisited Oil on Canvas 76cm x 102cm

A subject that I have wrestled with on many occasions, but never painted until 2012. This painting was so nicely described by a fellow PIL Artist that I have decided to include his description:

"I wonder how consciously you planned the complex and subtle symbolism going on here. When the crucifixion is placed in the context of those sharp pointy gothic spires, the cross-like cranes being used to restore the old churches, and then those birds(souls?) with their (joyful or indifferent?) freedom from it all, it seems (in my point of view) to say much more than just the usual religious archetype. So, are you going back towards the classical definition of christian mythology (restoration) or being liberated from it (freedom/birds)?" (Brett Nickell)
